Email

Ray Tomlinson was the first man to send email to different machines, different locations and most importantly different countries. He was refining the idea of sending a message through a network. The very first email was sent from two computer sitting next to each other. From this process the idea had expanded. Tomlinson also developed the @ sign for mail inboxes. This became the icon for the internet age. Tomlinson first email address was tomlinson@bbn-tenexa.
Experts think that the internet age has grown hugely because of Tomlinson and they expect it will grow continuously over the years.





Advantages of having a email:
· Easier and quicker than a letter
· You can forward messages
· You can send messages to your whole address book
· Your own and personal account, No one can access apart from you
· Access from anywhere e.g. mobile
· Attachments
· Communicate with people around the world

Disadvantages:
· Spam
· File attachment can be too large and unable to send.
· 3rd party information passed on- deception
· Cyber bullying
· Account can get hacked
· Viruses attract

Email works by internet or by server. Servers download the email and put onto an outlook for a browser for people to see or read. Businesses and certain home company tend to use this. Whereas other user use Internet based email such as hotmail, gmail, yahoo. This is more convenient.


Spoofing:
The process used in deception. This means and system or persons alters it personal informal or creates additional identities, this can also be called fraud causing people to act incorrectly

Spamming:
Pop-up’s of advertising. Most people find these annoying and now there is software to block this if they wish.

Virus:
A computer program that is normally sent by email. If this is activated it destroys all your computer files on the internal hard drive. This normally is forwarded to all your addresses in the computer address book. Viruses are activated by being opened.

Worm:
A computer worm is a program that can replicate and run itself. It differs from a computer virus in that it doesn’t need to embed itself into a host program to run. Computer worms usually spread through networks, although other methods of transport can be utilized such as local drives.


Trojan:
A Trojan is a network software application that is developed and stays hidden on computer. It is similar to worms that it serves malicious purposes. It can access personal information from home or business and then forwards this information by internet.
