Lost without my mobile:

This article decribes a girls experience of using mobile phones, she has become dependant on mobile phones and as a result of this she has become more lazy with her activities and in her general school life. People in this era are constantly using technology like mobile phones sms texting email in their everyday lifes. However they are therefore not using phone calls to talk to people. This is therefore putting her at a loss in her life because they are becoming more relaxed about things.

The way they act is also being more relaxed. They are becoming more unsocialble especially for meeting people for general days out. They feel for certain that people will turn up if they actually talk to them rather send the information in a text.

Changes from 40 years ago in business:
  • Machines have been more used than man so it has cut jobs.
  • your money gets payed directly into your personal bank account (BACS)
  • electronical banking means that people use the internet to bank and they have cut down on the number of people.

  • cash points can be used to get money insted of the bank, means you don't as many staff because not as many people coming.

  • Secretaries are not really used because they tend to do it for themself insted of getting a secretary to touchtype or short hand. Mircrosaft applications means people have lost their jobs because the person can do themselves

Jobs that have come around over the past 10 years:

  • comapanies that are internet providers- the poeple that connect you to the internet, techincal problems solvers. ICT systems are vital to business
  • Online retailers, people use to have a shop on a highstreet but now they can have one online and they need fewer amounts of poeople.
  • People who have manufactured the computers and made them. online gaming has become more popular and it takes millions of people to create on, just as many as producing a film.

Jobs that have moved to other countries:

  • Calls centre- they are well trained in computer systems. Place like india have a serge on jobs. Labour is cheaper aborad rather than employing someone from our country.

  • Advantages of other countries - is the timezone because their daytime is our night time so its an ongoing system all over the world. You can send infomation anywhere in the world.

  • Problems-They have explain about british culture and the language barrier is harder. Phases are not always taught.

People are more reliant on technology, just working, walking down a street, generally walking down the street.. Without ICT we wouldn't have anything to entertain ourselfs with.

From BBC News

Title: Hi-Tech slowdown threatens Uk.

This article describes the effects of taking on computers and laying certain people off. It says it has take many people on and it has made the business environments more softer to work in. By replacing people with computers i have left man power in a team also also they have to play for loads of technicians. How recently the technology productions have slowed down and the public have got used to using the technology. This means that production has slowed down and less people are needed for the demand and also the amount of technicians needed are less because people are becoming more able to handle the technology.

This is a negative point because people are losing their livelihood just because technology is slowing down. Maybe one day the technology will pick up again and will produce more jobs but at the current time it is not.

Computerweekly.com

title: council will spend £600m less on ICT this year.

This article express that this particular council is cutting back on ICT on this year. They want to see if they can use both teams and computers to run some of the organisation. They feel that computers are running the main parts of the programs and they would like to get people involved. They love to embrace the new age of technology however they feel that not everything can be run by computers.

This articles gives a positive and negative point about the age of technology. They love the new technology but also feel that it would be good to use people as well.

Forrester: IT spending up in 2008, but slower next year

This is a American bank that has spent alot of money into the IT for running the banks on many types of software. They express that they are cutting down on the amount of money they are spending on trialing out all the different software's. They are going to keep to one reliable software and also cut down on the amounts of technicians. They think is is about time at they are because the information ages is coming at its maturity.

This is a negative impact of IT because it is at its maturity and they are cutting back on the software. However they are still IT to run the bank through the various types of systems.

Mr Marriani Teleworking

  • Teleworking At BT:
  • working from home is good productivity
  • The telco claims that it saves £35m a year in accommodation
  • Its teleworkers are four times less likely to take sick days
  • Almost three-quarters described their work/life balance as 'good' or 'very good'.
  • One in 10 respondents indicated that they would not be able to do their current job unless they were able to telework. This means that the person is able to work from home because they have children.

Advantage:

  • saves health
  • saves time
  • anyone can do it
  • Saves traveling
  • Saves recruiment charges
  • More motivated
  • Don't have to wait to get ready

Disadvantages

  • If the system crashes it would become hard
  • there not all in the same place
  • hard to explain

Information on Ambulance case study:

  • They use the new digital system
  • satiellite tracking
  • Satnav
  • geographical information.
  • Call in's

The new technology is good for the ambulance team because they can help in many ways, in getting there, getting to the patient etc.

Southend ambulance service is a prim of new technology. They have currently have new technology for finding and bringing people into the hospitals. Southend has a new piece of technology such a new touch screen machine that can load a persons meidcal history. this has be reported as helpful and has saved many lifes at the moment and will continue to do so. They also use satiliite tracking to find other ambulances and also if some are in trouble.

http://www.eastanglianambulance.com/media/news-%20depreciated/new-ambulance-technology-could-save-lives

All the information mentioned above are used in the Southend NHS ambulance service. For example all the ambulance have a digital tracking to know where exactly they are at one that particular call out.  This helps in emergency is they are in trouble and are unable to explain where they are. They also have digital SATNAV to explain the quickest route and so that they don't get lost and loss incident patients.

Task 1 mr highmore hw

Task 1 Tool Man
John the salesman prides himself in being the best he can be. However at the moment he is struggling with all the unnecessary accessories he is carrying around with him. This can all be solved with some new pieces of technology.
The first piece of technical equipment that John will need is a PDA, personal digital assistant. This device can help him with all different information. Firstly he can put in all his appointments and each one will flash up to remind him of his appointment so that he will not miss on. He can also record audio onto this device which he can later play back and listen to and make notes with, if he wish to. Also he could access the Internet to gain certain files which would save carrying around items.

He can also invest in a GPS system. This is a handheld digital system that could john direct around the country. GPS can give John the directions to anywhere that he needed so that he could get their quicker, or avoid a certain place or even avoid the busy traffic so that he would not be late. This would save john alot of time.

A laptop is another ICT investment that John could make. On a laptop John could type up all his invoices instead of having hand written. He could also make his Friday office day quicker than expected and then he could spend more time selling rather than handling everything. He would be saving alot of time investing into a laptop and this could mean getting more sales.

He could also have a mobile phone because this way he could keep in contact with his clients by a click of a button and if anything was to happen he could let them know. Customers would value this because it makes them feel that there needs are not uncared for. He could also have a built in calculator which would save him carrying one. He might be able to send emails and all sorts of information about the business from his phone as well saving alot of time.

If john had access to the Internet he could open himself up to many things. He could then set up his own website and could take order forms online and then he could access these from his PDA or mobile Phone. He could state the latest prices online so that people wouldn't always have to ask. He would make things easier for himself. Also he could regularly check out his competition to see what prices and deals they are offering compared to john. So he would be making more money and comparing the competition at the same time.
However these are all great benefits saving time and gaining more money but there is one huge risk. This risk would be if one or all the ICT was to brake, die or out of signal it would be of no use because you would be without all your information. It is up to the business person to decide if he could take that risk.

Comparison myspace and facebook

Social Networking
Myspace

Myspace is a social networking website that allows people from around the world to talk to anyone at any time. It is a popular website that most middle-aged and young people use. It brings people of all ages around the world together. There are many different features of myspace that allow you as viewer to do.

Also you can see if the person is on the website so you will see if you will get an instant reply to a message or comment. Another benefit is that you can reveal as much or as little information as you want on your profile. The disadvantages to this social networking is that you could be talking to anyone, unless your profile is set to private, which could put you at risk to stranger. Also the response from another person will not always be instant unless the person is online at the same time you send the message.

Certain companies you this as well for another form of contact.

The benefits of facebook are that you can talk to anyone around the world by searching them for free. You can also play games games against people instantly and over time, as well as having an instant facebook chat. The disadvantages are that you could be talking to anyone and could be putting yourself at risk. It is also confusing to use and this could be a very big disadvantage.
Comparison.
These two social networking websites are very similar because they serve the same purpose of bringing people to together. However the structure and features of the website are very different from each other. For example myspace discuss over comments where as facebook is done over a "wall". Also facebook offers such features such games and groups. Whereas mypace offer ranking of groups, music and colour layout. Some people would say that myspace is more personal friendly and facebook could be used as personal and business use. However even though they have some differences they both service the same purpose as social networking websites.

New chapter Life in the information age

Working styles

Blackberries or mobile phones in general can be used in ict in the office, not just computers. In a company the most useful tool is a database. This could be to hold employee details, contacts, find out about people, could see if something is in stock, online information, police recording information of a crime.
Database are quicker than looking in a bookcase or something, this is called search critiearer. However if some thing was not working in the database the whole database has to be shut down. jobs would take longer without ict. we could still do the same jobs but it would just be harder.
If you work in a company you get to all the technology like phones or laptops but you would have to carry them all around.

email in business- this is very important for any company it is very important because it is a main form of communication.
epos- electronic point of sale. A computerised till conneced to a price look up database, and possibly to the live stock.
eftpos- electronic funds tranfer at point of sale. a system that allows debit cards to be used to pay for goods. the funds are transferred automatlically by the machine at the till from the buyers bank account to the sellers.

newspapers today you can send your article to anywhere arround the world and would be printed by transmitted system. You can transfer a story by laptop or mobilephone in 5-10 minuates. Organisation have it technitions around the company to help with computer problems.
They are NEEDED.
